Though he accompanied a number of war-parties, he never participated in any real lighting. Scouted with Gibbon, Miles, and Howard, and with Custer in his last campaign. He was one of the three scouts who were with Custer to the close of the Reno fight, at which time the Sioux made their attack on Custer (see Volume Ill, pages 44-49).
